Welcome to The Feathered Nest Farm! We are a small farm nestled near Smith Mountain Lake (VA). The farm unofficially started in 2022 with a small, very unsuccessful garden in a raised planter bed. In 2023, I lost my grandfather and found myself needing an outlet for my grief. Processing and healing led to an even bigger garden in the driveway of my suburban home. Through the healing, I also found an interest in learning more about growing my own food. Composting and using animal waste was the next step and chickens were added to the suburban homestead in spring 2023.

 

The farm officially came to fruition in summer 2024. The farm grew with the addition of Nubian and mini Nubian goats, turkeys, more chickens, ducks and guineas as well as a second livestock guardian. The farm is therapy. I feel more content, grounded and purposeful than I have in my life. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a steward of my land and the animals in my care. Chicken and Turkey breeding will be focused toward SOP, as well as personality. The goal for our goat herd is to breed ADGA Nubian & MDGA Mini Nubian goats for conformation, personality & milk genetics. Thank you for taking time to visit our page!
